Ainme sounds impressive, but it's not the sort of thing that normally graces terrestrial televison. At least not in Britain. It truly sucks to live without cable. Would someone like to write a dissertation on what I'm missing out on? :D

Well, you are missing out on a lot of very good stuff, and well a lot of bad. Anime, like any other form of entertainment has the reeaally good stuff and the reeaally bad stuff.

But I will only tell ya about the good!

Neon Genisis Evangelion, what is concidered to be one of the best anime drama/scifi series ever. a DEFINATE must see if not own for any true anime fan.

Neon Genesis Evangelion

At the turn of the millennium the inhabitants of Earth are nearly completely wiped out by a mysterious supposed meteorite strike on Antarctica. Roughly half the population dies as a direct result of the strike, and the rest are left to struggle for survival amidst the rising savage seas due to melting of the polar ice caps.

Now the year is 2015. As the remnants of the human race cower in subterranean cities, a deadly war is being waged for what is left of the planet, and for what lies there within. On one side are the mysterious alien beings known only as the Angels, on the other, the special agency NERV and mankind's last hope for survival; the awe-inspiring Evangelions.

Yet amongst the ongoing devastation, few weary individuals at NERV struggle to uncover and piece together the agency's long buried secrets and hidden agendas along with the mysteries surrounding the arrival of the Angels. Why was the Earth struck fifteen years ago? A mere simple unfortunate act of nature, or perhaps an act of vengeance instigated by beings more powerful than man. Why did NERV classify the Angel responsible for the first attack on Tokyo-3 as the third, not the first? And just why are the only qualified Eva pilots that of children born exactly nine months after the second impact that massacred over half the human race?

Cowboy Bebop, again another drama/scifi and also another definate must see!

Jazz agers, flower children, lost generation, beatniks, rockers, punks, nerds, hackers, lovers, generation X - whatever the designation, there have always been outlaws in our society who live in pursuit of autonomy. At times they are revered for their roles as pioneers, challenging the unkown; other times people consider them lawless desperadoes and a dangerous presence. Yet, really, it is only their exuberant music and an autonomy founded to express opinions different from those of other thats set them apart from the rest of the society.

The year 2071 AD. That future is now. Driven out of their terrestrial eden, humanity chose the stars as their final frontier. With the section-by-section collapse of the former nations a mixed jumble of races and peoples came. They spread to the stars, taking with them the now confused concepts of freedom, violence, illegality and love, where new rules and a new generation of outlaws came into being. People referred to them as Cowboy Bebops...

*intro obtained at http://thespectrum.net/bebop.shtml

Akira, Akira, Akira. An absolute classic! The first anime to come over to the US, very cool

The year is 2019, 31 years after Tokyo was destroyed by a top secret weapons project during World War III. Now, Neo-Tokyo has risen from the ashes to become a dark and dangerous megalopolis infested with gangs and terrorists. The government seethes with corruption and only maintains token control over the powerful military that prevents total chaos and hides the secrets of the past.

Childhood friends Tetsuo and Kaneda plunge into Neo-Tokyo's darkest secret when their motorcycle gang encounters a military operation to retrieve an escaped experimental subject. Tetsuo, captured by the military, is subjected to experiments that make him a powerful psychic, but, unfortunately for Neo-Tokyo, Tetsuo's powers rage out of control and he lashes out at the world that has oppressed him! Nothing can stop the destructive forces that Tetsuo wields except possibly the last boy to destroy Tokyo - Akira!

*intro obtained from http://www.akira2001.com/html/story.html

Princess Mononoke, by Hayao Miyazaki, who is considered to be the greatest master of animated artowork in Japan. This, and ANYTHING, EVERYTHING he has done is a must see for any sane anime fan! watch or...or...or... just watch it!

Mononoke Hime is a story about a mystic fight between the Animal Gods of the forest and humans, which takes place in the Muromachi Period (1333-1568) of Japan.

On the side of the Animal Gods is San (Mononoke Hime), a human girl who was raised by a wolf god. On the side of the humans is Lady Eboshi, who tries to build a kingdom for oppressed people, by cutting down the forest for her iron making operation.

In the middle of this fierce fighting for survival, Ashitaka, an Emishi boy, struggles to find a way for both sides to coexist. But the fighting just becomes more and more bloody and all hope seems to be lost...

*introduction from http://www.geocities.com/mclelun/mononoke.html

Spirited Away, the latest masterpiece by Hayao Miyazaki, GO WATCH!!!!

Ghost in the Shell. ANother classic! the second anime movie to come over to the US, a very cool story!

Ghost In The Shell" was an animation feature directed by Mamoru Oshii in 1995. It was adapted from Masamune Shirow's graphic novel where an internationally notorious computer criminal surfaces in Japan. Codenamed "The Puppet Master" for his ability to manipulate people's minds, thsi unique and mysterious 'super-hacker' is suspected of a multitude of offenses including stock market manipulation, illegal data gathering, political manoeuvring, terrorist acts and infringement of cybernetic ethics. Section 9, Japan's elite secret service is called in to capture this elusive criminal, but only to discover that the elaborate web of evidence leads back to Japan's own Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a computer virus secretly created by them as the ultimate tool in political and commercial espionage.

*intro from http://lyrics.interference.com/u2/lyrics/a...-the-shell.html

There are soo many more great movies and series I could talk about, Nadesico, Nausicaa, Trigun, etc. But I could fill the forum telling you about them. Just find what you can and enjoy it all!

There is a live action version of Fist of the North Star?

Is it a Japanese or American production? When was it made?

Does it have the exploding-head punches? :D

Exploding heads are still in, however he has to do some stupid touching ritual where he taps the guy all over his torso, puts two fingers up to the other guy's temples, puts his head down and close his eyes for a minute and then walks away despite the fact there's no reason why the other guy wouldn't be kicking his ass. But the head bursting and the scene where the fist of the south star buries his finger into Ken's chest are still there.

This should be fairly simple (All VHS):

Fist of the North Star (Copied)

Ranma 1/2: The Movie 1, Big Trouble in Nekonron China

Ranma 1/2: The Movie 2, Nihao My Concubine

Bio Booster Armor Guyver: Episodes 1-12

Manga:

Almost every Bio Booster Armor Guyver chapter in either comic form or trade paperback

All of them are in English and the only one above I'm sort of interested in getting on DVD is the Guyver's.

Here's my manga:

Ranma 1/2 vol. 1-6

InuYasha vol. 1-6, 9, 10, 12, 14-16

Cowboy Bebop vol. 1-3

Cowboy Bebop Shooting Star vol. 1-2

Lupin III vol. 1

X/1999 vol. 1

s.CRY.ed vol. 1- a cross between Mad Max and X-Men. Kazuma would make Wolverine look like a wimp because in the first novel, he shredded a guy to pieces. He also made a HOLY officer relive the memories of a girl the officer killed.

Hellsing vol. 1- The anime series was based on the manga

Other anime I wish the networks would carry:

s.CRY.ed: The series

New episodes of InuYasha- I mean beyond where InuYasha almost got killed by a demon who was also a bandit.

Original Transformers series- I know Sci Fi channel aired this series weekday mornings a few years back.

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (sequel to Vampire Hunter D)

Tokyo Babylon (prequel to X: The Movie)

I heard Cartoon Network will be adding a sixth day to it's Adult swim. This way they will have time to air Witch Hunter Robin, Gundam Seed, etc. My Uncle's girlfriend is into Witch Hunter Robin.
